Show: Skull Defekts w/ Daniel Higgs, Zomes, Microkingdom

Tomorrow night Floristree hosts an epic event that features half of Lungfish. Need I even say more? Probably not, but here's some more details for those who require them.

Daniel Higgs' most recent work has been with the Swedish band known as The Skull Defekts. Higgs took over as front man for their new LP dubbed Peer Amid, and has been touring with them over the past month. The LP is out now on Thrill Jockey, and sports eight tracks drenched in psychedelic punk not often seen in 2011. Highly recommended.

Support includes Zomes (Asa Osborne of Lungfish), who has a new LP called Earth Grid due out soon. Microkingdom will be channeling their inner no-jazz for this affair as well, fresh off the release of their first proper LP via Friends Recs.

This show starts at 9 PM, will cost you $7, and you can RSVP right here.

Twig Harper & Daniel Higgs - "Number Two"

A couple weeks ago I pointed out footage of an interview with Twig Harper, regarding his new LP with Daniel Higgs that's due out this month. I've spent the past few weeks with Clairaudience Fellowship mind-fucking my ears from time to time - seven collaborative songs from two Baltimore revolutionaries.

I will not pretend that I fully understand this LP just yet, or ever properly will, as it's just about as twisted as you'd possibly imagine. It's seven tracks of Daniel Higgs' epic spoken-word hymns (much like the poems of his Say God LP), but this go around these thoughts from Higgs are cosmically haunted by the noise of Twig Harper at the helm.

"Number Two" is the second track on the LP, and comes at a point in the album where minds are still vaguely in check, and ears are only teased by hints at what's to come. However, the universe has begun to stir, until there is only one way to go. That direction is inward, which doesn't stop throughout the latter half of this journey.

Twig Harper describes the vibes found on Clairaudience Fellowship as...

"...a setting of experience by creating a bridge inside the ear striving to see linguessence / utterance immediately prior to verbal distinction placed firmly inside a double helix weave ultra verbal mirror."

Thrill Jockey
will release Clairaudience Fellowship on September 21. The vinyl is limited to 1000 copies. Harper and Higgs also will be touring together, details forthcoming.

Twig Harper & Daniel Higgs - Clairaudience Fellowship

Thrill Jockey just announced a new LP they will be releasing, a collaboration from Baltimore's resident noise-fiend Twig Harper and the legendary Daniel Higgs.

An album of this nature is pretty mind-blowing to even think about, so the label went ahead and filmed some juicy details straight from the source. The video is of Twig Harper over at Tarantula Hill, and was filmed by Jake Lingan.

Clairaudience Fellowship is out September 21st on Thrill Jockey.

Daniel Higgs - Say God

Baltimore legend Daniel Higgs is likely one of the more intriguing musical spirits to grace your ears. If his current outlet of spoken word and ambient folk hasn't yet hypnotically captivated you at one of his more recent live sets, it's more than likely his pipes that fronted Lungfish have once inspired you.

Daniel Higgs recently released a brand new full length called Say God, which came out about a month ago on Thrill Jockey. I have been spending a lot of time with this double LP, which the vinyl came beautifully packaged in a gate-fold jacket.

The recordings do a magnificent job of capturing his current live sets, entrancing you with Higgs' words and sounds that are head-deep in mystical transcendence. When watching Daniel perform, I have always felt as if you're being given the opportunity to gaze inside the mind of Mr. Higgs, and Say God feels no different. Take a listen.

The production is more than certainly worth noting, with textures that have the feel of field recordings, rooms filled with wood floors, and tapes from live sets. "Say God", the third track on the album, uses a live recording of Zomes performing a show in North Carolina last year. The album was produced by the always wonderful David Sitek (TV on the Radio, Celebration), with help from Higgs also.

The ambient gospel of Say God will likely be one of the more important releases to come out of our city this year. I highly recommend snatching this one on wax, and plan to begin indulging with your mind as open as can be.

After the jump you'll find some nice footage of a performance from 12/9/09.
