Tonight: Teengirl Fantasy, Pictureplane, Gatekeeper

If tonight's show doesn't make you want to dance, then you probably have no soul. Once you've discovered that you do indeed have a soul, brave the heatwave for Club Hippo.

The Deep in the Game dudes have outdone themselves this time, bringing to Baltimore a crop of some of the most exciting electronic dance music being made today. Performing live will be Oberlin's Whartscape alums Teengirl Fantasy, the deconstructed house music of Denver's Pictureplane, and the haunted pounding synths of New York's Gatekeeper. Baltimore's own DJ Dog Dick is also on the bill, along with the usual resident DJs.

This one starts at 10 PM, costs eight dollars, and you can RSVP right here.

Tonight: Scout Niblett @ the Golden West
and Washed Out / Small Black @ Floristree

FEEL IT ALL AROUND from Northern Lights on Vimeo.

There are two fantastic shows tonight in Baltimore, both at the Golden West and down at Floristree. Each should provide sounds and vibes to suit any mood.

At Floristree, catch Washed Out with Small Black, Pictureplane, and Moss of Aura. Washed Out and Small Black are on their way to SXSW for some hotly anticipated performances, spreading haze-wave vibes to ears abound. Washed Out has a tour CDR that you can grab tonight, but check out track seven off of it here. Next time you'll be able to catch Washed Out in Baltimore is May 8 at the 2640 Space with Beach House.

Read on for all the details on tonight's stacked Golden West lineup.

I've been pretty stoked for Scout Niblett to come to town, and of course I'd recommend a bill that's got two of the bands from our G Spot show back in January playing it. Arbouretum's closing set that night was killer, and tonight's show will provide a first look at a newly shuffled lineup for the doom folk crew. The lineup is now Dave and Corey with Buck Carey and Matthew Pierce.

Another reason why I'm blatantly partial to tonight's Golden West bill - Sri Aurobindo are opening. Friends Records (debuting soon) is releasing their debut LP, Cave Paintings in a couple months. This is being sent off to get pressed this week, and you'll soon be able to hear some tracks via the interwebs. For now you can settle for a live recording of "Soul Vibrations of Man" below, but better yet get to this show around 10 tonight.

Scout Niblett has released six full lengths since 2001, the most recent, The Calcination of Scout Niblett, just dropping on Drag City. Expect minimalist guitar music with a lot of soul, coming from a women that has indulged in her fair share of Mudhoney and Nirvana. Grunge-folk? Yes please. Up top is a video for a song she did with Bonnie Prince Billy.

Premiere: Future Islands - "Flicker & Flutter" (Javelin Remix)
and Photos of Jesus Camp Show with Javelin / Grandchildren

Javelin at Jesus Camp
Future Islands played their last local show for a little while, as they headlined Jesus Camp Sunday night with Javelin, 400 Cloaks, and Grandchildren all on hefty support. Going out and dancing at the Megachurch in Hampden on a Sunday night proved worthy, as all acts made going to church plenty fun.

Pictured above is just some of the fantastic antics that took place during Javelin's set. They made you want to dance, they were lively as all hell, and they've created some pretty infectious pop songs. You''ll find a Javelin remix of the Future Islands track "Flicker and Flutter" on the upcoming Post Office Wave Chapel via Future Islands and Free Danger. The band kindly hooked us up with the exclusive premiere of said track.

Stream this one in all it's glory and peep all photos of this show after the click.

Future Islands at Jesus Camp
The upcoming Future Islands remix EP has it's NYC release party this Thursday at Death by Audio, with Javelin, Jones, Moss of Aura, and Pictureplane - all of which lent a hand to the record. Future Islands synth wizard Geritt Welmers donated his Moss of Aura project's take on "Beach Foam", utilizing riffs from No Age's "Eraser". Jones is responsible for the remix of "Little Dreamer" that features Beach House's Victoria Lengrand, and Pictureplane reworked "Old Dreamer".

Future Islands at Jesus Camp
Sunday night was the trio's last hometown show for a little while, but look for big things to come in 2010 from these guys including a Friends Records split 7 inch with Lonnie Walker, and their debut Thrill Jockey full length. We will also have a podcast of an acoustic house session hitting waves soon, with brand new tracks, a super fantastic organ, and Sam somehow sitting down while singing.

Here's the premiere of the rad Javelin remix on the upcoming 12 inch, and more photos.
