Tonight there's a doubleheader, so start up in Hampden at Jesus Camp, then head on down to the Penthouse. Married in Berdichev, Winks, Dead Drums, Alexander Trust, French Quarter, Pollination Population all play at Jesus Camp starting at 5 PM today.
Tonight at the Penthouse you'll find Future Islands and Lower Dens returning from a national tour and joined by The Art Department. This show starts around 9 PM.
A couple weeks ago an entire floor at the Annex was dominated by fantastic sounds from the likes of Run DMT, Prince Rama, Emily Reo, Winks, and a lot more. I was out of town catching Dan Deacon, Height with Friends, and Dustin Wong all invade New York at the Cake Shop, but Adam from Weekends was in attendance. He played a set with Winks, and shot some really rad photos.

Adam from Weekends and some of his friends shot photos of his show with Height with Friends at the Hexagon a couple weeks ago, which was the release party for Bed of Seeds. Adam's shots help portray the packed house and friendly vibes, all part of an all around awesome evening.

The folks over at XLR8R just premiered a new Death Set video yesterday, a cover of a Daedelus track called "Far Weathered Friends". You can download an MP3 of the song here for free, and view the new animated video above that sports a tour bus, lots of animals, gnomes, pyramids, sex, and more.

Tomorrow night Sonar's got a killer one that's pretty much guaranteed to be a rootin' tootin' good time. Baltimore welcomes the The Spits, Nobunny, and The Points to town, and pairs them all with our favorite blaze-rock band Hollywood. This monster of a show is brought to us by Unregistered Nurse.
The Spits are from Seattle, and have been making nu-wave drenched punk music for about ten years. Their catalog is extensive and certainly worth checking out, with four self-titled full lengths out on multiple labels. They are known for putting on a hell of a show, and should prove to be a healthy closer for the evening.
Last time Nobunny came around, things like this happened...

The Soft House hosted a killer lineup last Friday night, and one of our photographers Valerie was there to shoot the whole evening. I unfortunately missed out on this one, but I heard through the grapevine that it was a more than stellar affair. Get a glimpse of some more shots below, and the full photo set after the jump.
Yesterday's jams were seasonal, as that Wigflip compilation screamed summer, while that INEVERYROOM track is probably best used while still dripping from the Prettyboy Reservoir. Today, I have yet another summer-soaked jam for you folks to rock.
Videohippos just dropped a brand new release, a split CDR with their friends Sewn Leather. There are three brand new Videohippos tracks on this release, all of which feature contributions from other local musicians. The help includes DJ Dog Dick on "High Dive", Teeth Mountain on "Bottles", and Ed Schrader on "Fire Foot". Take a gander:
Right from the get-go, this one sports hazy keys that provide the kind of melody that is typically found up in the clouds. There are birds chirping throughout, further cementing this as one of the first true local summer jams of the year. Suggestions for use include while biking down to Jones Falls, porch-sitting, and late night rooftop sessions.
Production was headed by the always awesome Chester Gwazda, and the art is by Lesser Gonzalez. This release come compliments of Tater Junction, and even comes with a Videohippos sticker! I am extremely excited to premiere a brand new compilation from our friends over at Wigflip Records. Caleb Moore (Lands & Peoples / Dead Drums) passed along this doosey of a release last night, the first compilation to come out of the new Baltimore label.
The comp is called SUN SUN SUN, and features new and exclusive things from a whole mess of Baltimore goodness. It is available as a free download, which Bmore Musically Informed is proud to premiere at the link below:
Wigflip's compilation sports some pretty heady ambient jams from the likes of Dead Drums, Semya, Winks, Zu Shapes, Brendan Sullivan, Amy Reid, Run DMT, Dustin Wong, Happy Family, Rod Hamilton, Dygn, and Amanda Schmidt. It's a bright and dreamy summer adventure, one that's best served with an open mind and deep spirit. Caleb, who curated the tracks and put together the art, had this to say about the release...
"Some of these people are my close friends, and some of them are acquaintances that I simply respected the shit out of. Over the course of this project those two lines were blurred, my relationships with the participants grew, and our musical tastes shifted ever so slightly. This has been in the works for about six months. For me, this compilation is a perfect representation of everything I love about the Baltimore music/art community."

Tonight some of our favorite North Carolina fellows are coming to town, playing a show at the Annex Theatre. Lonnie Walker's These Times Old Times finds its way to my ears more often than not when I'm in need of some good old fashioned punked-out country music, and we were more than thankful for their killer contribution to the Friends and Friends of Friends compilation.

Tonight you've got two adventures to choose from, one of which will weave you in and out of the silky marmalade forest full of ambient pop bliss, while the other will enter you into the stank-filled jungle of experimental angst and pure adrenaline. This might sound like a harsh curve, and well, that's because it is.
One of my favorite Baltimore spots, The Soft House, is hosting a super nice one tonight with Happy Family, Do While, Avocado Happy Hour, and Holy Ghost Party. Will of Happy Family just released one of the best splits I've heard in a while, one that features Run DMT on the A-side and himself on the B-side. The beautiful track streaming above is from that tape, and you can snag the whole thing from Wigflip now. Also, Avocado Happy Hour will be performing Spiegel en Spiegel by Arvo Part, and ice cream treats are promised by Amanda from AHH.
If you choose the jungle adventure, you'll be heading to the Golden West where you'll find the Twin Stumps album release party for Seedbed. Their new LP on Fan Death is incredibly awesome, and these dudes are even better live. They'll be supported by Leather and Janitor, and this one will run you five American dollars.
Sonar's got a big one in the wings, with a bill on June 13th that sports Neon Indian, Wild Nothing, Dominique Young Unique, and DJ Cullen Stalin.
Neon Indian dropped an LP dubbed Psychic Chasms last year, all while the internet has been bursting at the seams with endless varieties of chill-wave jams. Alan Palomo is from Denton, Texas, and has been cooking up some of the smoothest and danceable synth pop tracks you'll find around the interwebs.
Virginia's Wild Nothing are a recent blogosphere favorite, having just released the follow up to their debut. Gemini seems pretty worthy of the hype, and is now available via Captured Tracks.

This was the last show of a two month national tour, a journey that saw Height with a rotating cast of Friends that played with the likes of Nuclear Power Pants, Dan Deacon, Future Islands, Lonnie Walker, and many more. Last Friday the space was hot and sweaty and sported a sold-out crowd that was eager to welcome Height home. He was joined on stage by Mickey Free, Emily Slaughter, Brendan Richmond, Liz Aeby, Travis Allen, and Lord Grunge.

Tonight the Ottobar has super solid evening in store as Surfer Blood comes to town. Their jangled and catchy-as-all-hell form of pop has turned many heads in the musicsphere, and rightfully so as their new record Astro Coast is the real deal
They'll be joined by Weekends, a band in need of no introduction if you're familiar with our site. Their new record is quickly approaching it's release on vinyl, and these dudes have been lighting it up as of late at shows around town and beyond. Fun bonus fact - Brendan from Weekends grew up in Florida with some of the kids from Surfer Blood.
Speaking of Weekends, Mobtown Studios just released their Microshow session with the duo, a stripped down and almost acoustic form of the band. The intimate session was a pleasure to attend, and can now be yours for free via an MP3 download available from the Charles Village studio's site.
Tonight there's a super solid one at the Pet Cemetary with Lands and Peoples, INEVERYROOM, Beyond Say, and Eachothers. Lands and Peoples and INEVERYROOM are amidst and eary summer mini-tour, but are making a quick stop in their hometown before they head off to West Virginia.
I was lucky enough to catch these guys play the Bushwick Rooftop Festival over the weekend, which was a whole mess of fun. On Sunday in Brooklyn the festival kicked off with a trio of Baltimore goodness as Lands and Peoples, INEVERYROOM, and Weekends all melted faces and hearts. The heavy sun on the black and crowded rooftop might have played a part in the melting too, but the bands all sounded pretty rad.
If you read this space often you're probably aware that I'm very familiar with Weekends and Lands and Peoples, but INEVERYROOM is a band I've only had the chance to see once or twice before this weekend. Here's a taste off of their current tour CDR...
Their psychedelic surf sounds prove to be extremely catchy, weaving in and out of intergalactic galaxies and into pop song structures with ease. These folks are a must-see, and I highly recommend snatching up their awesomely packaged CDR. They are also part of a tour cassette tape split with Lands and Peoples, a secret surprise Friends Records release that you can also snag tonight.
The show starts at 9 PM, and special guests are tentatively promised.
