Tonight: Teengirl Fantasy, Pictureplane, Gatekeeper

If tonight's show doesn't make you want to dance, then you probably have no soul. Once you've discovered that you do indeed have a soul, brave the heatwave for Club Hippo.





The Deep in the Game dudes have outdone themselves this time, bringing to Baltimore a crop of some of the most exciting electronic dance music being made today. Performing live will be Oberlin's Whartscape alums Teengirl Fantasy, the deconstructed house music of Denver's Pictureplane, and the haunted pounding synths of New York's Gatekeeper. Baltimore's own DJ Dog Dick is also on the bill, along with the usual resident DJs.

Adventure - Mirror Box Vol. 1: "Beyond the Ultraworld" Mix

Benny Boeldt aka Adventure is due out with a new LP on Carpark this year, and yesterday Pitchfork pointed out a new mix put together by the currently morphing electro-junky.



The mix kicks off with a brand new song by Adventure called "Relax The Mind", a sort of electronically-infused meditation that only contains traces of Benny's prior work. The rest of the mix is rounded out with other like-minded sounds including Blondes, Light Asylum, Cex, Teengirl Fantasy, Emeralds, and more. The full track list is after the jump.

Adventure's new LP, Lesser Known, is due out March 22 on Carpark Records.

A few weeks back I posted Mark Brown's video for a new Ami Dang track, and here's another psychedelic swirl of visuals compliments of Baltimore's Mark Brown.



The track is off Teengirl Fantasy's newest LP, dubbed 7 AM. Admittedly, I haven't been a fan of more traditional electronic music as of late. Teengirl Fantasy's new LP has revived my faith in simple and repetitive electronic dance music, and has had me coming back to it quite a bit more than anticipated. Plus, its got soul. This duo does not originate from Baltimore, but they've got a couple Whartscapes under their belt over the past few years.

While here we usually tend to focus on the local talent for Whartscape, this year sports a whole lot of amazing sounds from outside of Baltimore.
